The Fabulous Adventures of Astera: Writer/Actress for Hire

Meet Astera (aka: me), a star in her own mind. Our plucky little heroine has embarked on not one but two difficult, low-paying career paths: writing and acting. Witness the menial jobs! The unreasonable demands! The quirky friends and family! And the glimmer of success just ahead! Through it all, Astera maintains her core beliefs: 1) She is destined to be fabulous 2) Everything is more fun with a cocktail.

Yeah, That's What's Important

So, the novel-writing experiment is not going as well as I had hoped. I also am working on a freelance project with a tight schedule, and that has been taking priority, unfortunately. I am still optimistic that I can catch up on my word count and make it to the finish line, though.

Just now, I decided to take a little break from everything and read a few news stories. I saw one headline that said eight House races were still in doubt, because the vote counts were so close. And then I read this gem:

"In the Columbus, Ohio-area, elections officials are delaying the count of more than 9,000 provisional ballots by one day so it doesn't disrupt the much-vaulted Ohio State-Michigan football game on Nov. 18."

Wow. I don't know what to make fun of first, the fact that counting ballots is less important than a football game, or the fact that the game is referred to as "much-vaulted," instead of "much-vaunted."

America! Where football comes before politics, and proper grammar and usage is trampled at every turn!
